Actual reason behind Beyoncé’s name change as fans left in shock

Fans noticed the ‘name change’ in Forbes Magazine

After fans clocked that Beyoncé’s full title had seemingly ‘changed’ in Forbes’ list of 2024’s ‘World’s Most Powerful Women’ – which was released this week – the truth has finally been spilled.

The revelation comes amid mass speculation about the singer’s controversial decision.

Alongside the likes of Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey and RihannaBeyoncé was praised by the media outlet for her contribution in the ‘Media & Entertainment’ category.

Landing in 35th – with experts having compared her money, media, impact and sphere of influence to others in the listing – a glammed-up snap of the mother-of-three has been shared, along with her name.

Readers of the article couldn’t help but notice that a change had seemingly been made to the 43-year-old musician’s moniker, with some wondering what it could possibly mean.

Forbes had referred to her in the piece as ‘Beyoncé Knowles’, having dropped the ‘Carter’ aspect of her title, which itself was double-barrelled.

She changed her name to this following her 2008 marriage to husband Jay-Z, after which the couple went on to welcome three kids together.

The pop icon has also referred to herself as ‘Mrs Carter’ for over a decade now, and toured internationally under her married name.

Additionally, her most recent album, which was released back in March, was also named Cowboy Carter in a nod to her married name.

After catching wind of the Forbes announcement, many fans rushed to social media to share their confusion.

One Twitter user penned: “My good sis where’s your hyphen?”

“When did Beyoncé change her last name?” asked a second.

A third piped up: “… no hyphen???”

“Lemme hear y’all say UH OH,” quipped a fourth, while a fifth exclaimed: “Nah don’t forget the Carter!!!”

A sixth chimed in: “What’s coming next, I’m intrigued!!!”

“Everyone say heeeyyyy ms knowles,” chirped a seventh member of the Beyhive.

Now, however, the actual reason for the difference in title has been exposed – and by the sounds of things, it’s not as dramatic as some celebrity gossip lovers thought it would be.

It turns out that the publication has only ever referred to Beyoncé as ‘Knowles’ when writing about the singer, and hasn’t ever referred to her with the ‘Carter’ aspect of her title.

One die-hard fan pointed out on social media after the news hit headlines: “Beyoncé has always been listed on Forbes profile with her maiden name. This is evidenced by their update to her net worth in 2023”.

Another added: “Nobody ever called her Beyoncé Carter…”

“She’s literally the only one who ever called herself ‘Mrs.Carter’,” a third quipped.Featured Image Credit: Justin Sullivan/Getty Images/Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for The Recording Academy

Real reason Ariana Grande just changed her name back to her real one

Real reason Ariana Grande just changed her name back to her real one

‘Wicked’ viewers were surprised to see a new addition to the Glinda star’s moniker in the credits

Cinema-goers have been blindsided by an unexpected change made to Ariana Grande’s full title, which appears during Wicked’s rolling credits.

Despite being born ‘Ariana Grande-Butera’ – a combination of her mother, Joan Grande’s, and father, Edward Butera’s names – the much-loved star dropped the latter section of her name as a pre-teen.

So, when she later skyrocketed into the spotlight as a child star on Nickelodeon’s Victoriousgoing on to bag a further role in children’s hit series Sam and Cat, she simply went by the moniker Ariana Grande.

And in the years that followed, when she went on to become one of America’s most successful musicians, selling over 90 million records worldwide, she opted to keep this single last name.

After her latest project Wicked landed in cinemas last month, however (22 November), viewers noticed that she’d added ‘Butera’ to her credit again, prompting some fans’ curiosity over why it was ever dropped in the first place.

It turns out that the ‘Thank U Next’ singer fell out of touch with her dad back in 2013, just a few years after he and her mother went their separate ways.

Ariana, now 31, was just eight when her parents divorced, though her relationship with her graphic designer father broke down slowly afterwards.

Speaking to Seventeen Magazine about their estrangement in 2017, she described her connection to her father as complicated.

She said at the time: “It’s private… It took me so long to be OK with it.

“So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself.”

The ‘Side to Side’ chart-topper added: “I had to accept that it’s OK not to get along with somebody and still love them.”

In the years since her emotional admission, however, it sounds as though the father-daughter duo have been able to repair their relationship.

Ariana invited both of her parents along to the 62nd Grammy Awards back in 2020.

Butera was also present at her wedding to her now-ex-husband, real estate agent Dalton Gomez, in 2021, and, as we say, her latest project of Wicked has seen another tribute to her dad.

Despite the largely positive reception, however, the film has also faced some backlash over director Jon M. Chu decision to split the film into two parts.

Wicked Part Two will be released in November 2025, so it’s going to be a long wait for eager fans.

Explaining the reasoning behind the decision in a statement, the director said: “We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but two!

“With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters.”

Talking about their off-screen relationship in an interview with Vanity Fair, Ariana’s co-star, Elphaba actress Cynthia Erivo said: “We needed real connection, and we needed to lead this with love—even in the moments that are supposed to be fraught with tension within the piece.”

Grande added: “We communicated like the f***ing champions of communication of the world.”Featured Image Credit: Neil Mockford/WireImage/Bruce Glikas/WireImage

Sad reason behind why George Michael actually wrote Last Christmas

Sad reason behind why George Michael actually wrote Last Christmas

George Michael’s goal was to have a Christmas number one

Did you know there’s a heartbreaking reason behind George Michael and Wham!’s decision to create arguably the greatest festive song of them all, ‘Last Christmas’?

Between June 1982 and 1986, the late George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley’s vibrant pop project Wham! ruled the airwaves.

During their short but sweet reign, the pair – alongside Helen ‘Pepsi’ DeMacque-Crockett and Shirlie Kemp – put out three studio albums and 14 singles before bringing the curtain down for good at Wembley Stadium.

Following the demise of the band, Michael – whose real name was Georgios ‘Yog’ Kyriacos Panayiotou – embarked on a fruitful solo career up until his sudden and tragic death in 2016.

Meanwhile, Ridgeley, 61, has continued to pour time into charity work and is a former Formula Three motor racing driver.

Two years before Wham!’s breakup, the group decided to record their first – and subsequent last – Christmas single, ‘Last Christmas’.

The synth-pop song, which has stood the test of time, was solely written and produced by Michael and was released via CBS Records on December 3 1984.

Why did George Michael and Wham! decide to release ‘Last Christmas’?

According to a new BBC Two documentary titled Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, the ‘Freedom’ singer considered the festive period the most wonderful time of the year. But in a tragic turn of events, he would die of heart disease at the age of 53 on Christmas Day.

Speaking from the Swiss resort of Saas-Fee, were the ‘Last Christmas’ music video was filmed, Shirlie said of Michael: “Christmas was bigger than him, so he could disguise himself in Christmas.

“That was one of the reasons he loved that time of year, and why he liked to go carol singing. Imagine if everyone had iPhones back then. Our Christmas Eves were the best.”

Pepsi added that the two-time Grammy Award winner had a penchant for dressing up over the holidays, recalling one particular festive adventure.

“He lived in a little mews house on Kensington High Street and he went, ‘Right, let’s go!’. He had all the wigs and everything,” she said. “We sang in front of a house and then we’d end up in a pub spending the money that we had collected. Then it was like, ‘OK, let’s go over there’, and it was like, ‘No, it’s too far to walk’.

“So we got on a bus with the wigs and everything, and then we’d end up in another pub, causing havoc.”

The long-lasting legacy of ‘Last Christmas’

The TV documentary also reveals how one of Michael’s lifelong goals was to make a Christmas number-one hit.

Unfortunately, ‘Last Christmas’ failed to peak higher than second place during his lifetime.

Of course, Michael’s vocals do feature on the 1984 track—so arguably he did fulfil his dream after all!

Seven years after Michael’s death in 2016, ‘Last Christmas’ finally reached the coveted Christmas Number 1 for the first time in 39 years.

What did Andrew Ridgely say about ‘Last Christmas’ finally becoming number one in the UK?

Following the ‘Last Christmas’ chart triumph, Ridgely sat down with the Official Charts to discuss how pleased Michael would be with the placement.

“Yes, nigh on 39 years, Last Christmas has finally ascended to the much-cherished and sought-after Official Christmas Number 1 spot, which was always the main goal,” he said.

“George would be beside himself, after all of these years, finally obtain Christmas Number 1. It’s mission accomplished!

“Yog [George] said that he wrote Last Christmas with the intention of writing a Christmas Number 1. That was the challenge; the goal that he set for himself.”
